Followed by the adoption of two resolutions last year, the Washington State Senate and House of Representatives respectively passed a resolution again in support of Taiwan- SR8654 and HR4651 on Feb. 23rd, 2022. TECO in Seattle extends sincere gratitude to all the supporting legislators.
In the SR8654, the resolution affirms that Taiwan shares with the United States and the State of Washington the common values of freedom, democracy, human rights, and Taiwan is the 5th largest trading partner of Washington in Asia. It also addresses that Taiwan is a willing and contributing member of the world community and Washington State supports Taiwan’s participation in the International Organizations and reiterate its support for closer economic and trade relations between the U.S. and Taiwan. In the HR4651, it emphasizes Washington enjoys a more vibrant heritage and economy from the bilateral cultivation of these deep ties with Taiwan and recognizes the mutual friendship, history, and successes shared between the two countries.
Senator Keith Wagoner, Senator Ann Rivers, Senator Jim Honeyford, and Representative Sharon Santos also stated their support of Taiwan’s freedom and democracy as well as the appreciation for Taiwan’s donation of medical masks during the early pandemic. TECO in Seattle will continue to work with the Washington State government and legislature to deepen the cooperation in all aspects.
