If the applicant was born before Feb. 9, 1980, then the father has to be a Taiwan citizen in order to apply for a Taiwan passport.
- The applicant must submit the first-time passport application in person at our office. If the applicant is under the age of 18, they must be accompanied by both parents.
- The marriage certificate and birth certificate issued by the US government must be authenticated before applying for the passport.
- The document authentication application and the passport application cannot be submitted simultaneously.
It takes 8~10 weeks to process the passport application. The required documents are as follows:
- The passport application form, the Application Form for Entry and Exit Permit to Taiwan Area, Checklist for Applying for Entry Permit and Child Last Name Agreement. If the applicant is over the age of 18, you can skip the “Child Last Name Agreement”.
- The original ROC Taiwan/foreign passport of the parents. If you cannot provide their original passports, the copies of the passports must be authenticated by the TECO office or the Bureau of Consular Affairs in Taiwan. If the applicant would like to bear the Chinese last name of the parent who are a non-ROC passport holder, such parent should fill out the “Chinese name declaration form”. If the parent cannot sign in person at TECO office, the aforesaid form must be notarized.
- The original US passport of the applicant
- The original marriage certificate of the parents
- If the parents have the Taiwan ID number and register the marriage in Taiwan, please provide the parents’ original household registration transcript issued within the last 3 months. (The marriage date must be demonstrated on the household registration transcript.)
- If the parents have the Taiwan ID number and don’t register marriage in Taiwan, please provide the parents’ original household registration transcript issued within the last 3 months (It is deemed as the non-marriage record in Taiwan.) as well as the original Taiwan civil marriage certificate or the original authenticated marriage certificate issued by the US government.
- If the parents do not have the Taiwan ID number, please provide the original authenticated marriage certificate issued by the US government.

Furthermore, both parents must sign their names on the section 11 on the application form.
- The application fee are as follows:
- $45.00 for those 14 years old or older.
- $31.00 for children younger than 14 years old.
- Payment Method : Cash, cashier checks and Money Order (Make it payable to “TECO”). Credit card and personal check are not accepted.

- Please enclose a self addressed, stamped USPS Express Mail envelope with $32 postage or a Priority flat rate envelope with $15.00 postage (priority certified mail and the signature is required)
