H.E. Ambassador Fiona Huei-Chun Fan of the Republic of China (Taiwan) was deeply moved by witnessing the immense hardship caused by Hurricane Beryl on Union island, Mayreau and Canouan during her visit to the Southern Grenadines with Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves on July 9th, 2024.
Seeing the extent of the damage firsthand, Ambassador Fan was inspired by the spirit and determination of the local communities and authorities to rebuild and recover, as well as the efforts of international volunteers and relief teams in the immediate response.
Amb. Fan expressed her commitment that Taiwan stands firmly with our friends as Vincentians navigate these challenging times. The Government of the Republic of China (Taiwan) has pledged an emergency grant of USD$200,000 to assist with the recovery efforts. The Embassy will closely collaborate with the Government of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines to ensure a swift response to those in need.
The people and government of Taiwan are praying for a swift recovery.
