Saint Vincent and the Grenadines is located in the middle of the Windward Islands of the Lesser Antilles in the Eastern Caribbean, consisting of 32 islands or cays and lies to the south of the St. Lucia and north of Grenada; it has a total area of around 389 square kilometres with a population of approximately 109,900. Saint Vincent and the Grenadines was formerly a British colony and gained its independence from the U.K. on October 27, 1979.
The Republic of China (Taiwan) and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines established diplomatic ties on August 15, 1981. For the past 40 years, the relations between the two countries have grown steadily and remain stable. The Republic of China (Taiwan) has been a faithful partner in the development of the Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. There are many areas of cooperation between the two countries, ranging from infrastructure, agriculture, medical care, to information technology, education, human resources, and youth and cultural exchanges, which led to a strong and close relationship for decades. Saint Vincent and the Grenadines has been a loyal supporter for Taiwan’s participation in many international organizations and a faithful friend to the Republic of China (Taiwan) in the Caribbean region.
