Our Office and MEP Ivan ŠTEFANEC co-hosted the "Taiwan Orchid Exhibition" in the European Parliament, from November 7 to 10, 2022.
The opening ceremony of the exhibition was held at noon on November 9 at the European Parliament, with over a hundred friends of Taiwan, including more than 30 Members of the European Parliament, officials from the European Commission and Ambassadors from like-minded countries, gathering to celebrate the beauty and elegance of Taiwanese orchids.
In his remarks, Ambassador Remus Li-Kuo Chen pointed out that Phalaenopsis (moth orchids) represent perseverance and friendship, which stand as the main themes of the exhibition. He also added that Taiwan and its people are determined to safeguard our democratic ways of life, and thanked the European Parliament for its enduring friendship and staunch support for Taiwan. Amb. Chen stressed that through cooperation with like-minded partners such as the EU, we will be able to maintain long-term peace, stability, and prosperity.
MEP ŠTEFANEC called the Exhibition “extraordinary”. He pointed out that we are living in turbulent times, before stating that in the face of criminal aggression and increased Chinese threats to our friends in Taiwan, it is very important for democracies to stand together and express our mutual cooperation.
MEP Michael GAHLER, Chair of the EP-Taiwan Friendship Group, said the exhibition is just breathtaking. He stressed that if we are strong in support of Ukraine, if we strengthen our links with Taiwan in multiple ways, it will hopefully make an impression on the dictators of this world, in order not to fulfill their long-term ambitions.
The highly praised four-day Exhibition has been visited by hundreds of people, high-ranking officials from the European Commission, several Vice-Presidents of the European Parliaments, more than a hundred MEPs, and many other friends of Taiwan from all walks of life.
This exhibition not only showcased the beauty of Taiwan in the European Parliament, but also symbolized the ever-growing friendship between Taiwan and the EU, as well as the firm shared faith to tackle the critical challenges of our times together!
