Berlin, March 4 (CNA) A total of 240 Taiwanese companies are
participating in CeBIT 2010, the world's largest computer expo being
held in the German city of Hanover.
Major Taiwanese manufacturers such as Asus and MSI are featuring
their latest products, including mini notebooks, touch-screen LCD
monitors and e-book readers.
According to Chang Cheng-fen, director of the Taiwan Trade Center
in Dusseldorf, CeBIT is an important platform through which Taiwanese
firms can make inroads into the European and African markets.
Although CeBIT attendance has been shrinking in recent years, it
is expected to continue to hold its leading status in the global
digital industry for the next few years, Chang said.
Statistics compiled by the organizer indicate that a total of
4,150 exhibitors from around the world are taking part in this year's
show, a lot fewer compared with 2001, when there were more than 8,000
exhibitors.
Chiu Yi-che, a Taiwanese economic affairs official posted in
Germany, said that many participating Taiwanese firms have reported
brisk orders at the exhibition and expressed satisfaction with the
results.
To promote Taiwan's hi-tech brand image, the Taiwan External
Trade Development Council has again set up a product image area at
this year's exhibition, displaying 133 premium hi-tech products and
inventions that have won the iF design award.
Meanwhile, German police again raided the CeBIT exhibition
grounds this year to check for products involving patent
infringement.
No Taiwanese manufacturers have been affected, Chiu said.
