The Science and Technology Division of the Taipei Representative Office in the EU and Belgium hosted a keynote speech on September 13 titled "Innovative Chip Design and Talent Development." The speech was delivered by Dr. Ying-Zong Juang, Deputy Director of the Taiwan Semiconductor Research Institute (TSRI), who provided an in-depth overview of the latest developments in the semiconductor industry and innovations in IC design technology.
The event began with an introduction by Professor Ying-Chyi Chou from the Science and Technology Division, followed by opening remarks from Deputy Representative Ping-Chi Yang. Mr. Yang emphasized the importance of Taiwan-Europe collaboration in the field of technology, particularly in the semiconductor industry. He also noted that with the growing global demand for semiconductors, strengthened technological cooperation between Taiwan and the EU will enhance innovation and strengthen supply chain connections between the two regions.
In his presentation, Dr. Juang highlighted the development of TSRI and its technical service platforms, underscoring the institute’s leading position in IC design and manufacturing. TSRI offers a wide range of technical services, including 16nm FinFET, GaN, and silicon photonics technologies. It also provides more than 90 tools from 13 EDA vendors, along with cloud services, to meet the diverse needs of users.
Dr. Juang further elaborated on how TSRI utilizes cloud-based EDA services to optimize investment and management and how advanced manufacturing processes improve the efficiency of semiconductor design and production. He also stressed TSRI’s efforts in global talent development, training more than 15,000 professionals annually and supporting 300 research and development teams. These platforms not only drive the growth of IC design but also play a vital role in cultivating high-quality talent, contributing to the long-term development of Taiwan’s semiconductor industry.
