Director-General Charles Liao has given his first-ever interview to the Christian Science Monitor, the second-largest newspaper in the New England region!
Renowned for its professional and in-depth reporting, the Monitor held a special interview on May 15 with Director-General Liao. The meeting was led by the newspaper’s newly appointed managing editor, Kurt Shillinger, and joined by senior editorial page editors Armin Sethna, Christa Bryant, and Asia news correspondent Lindsey McGinnis.
During the wide-ranging and accessible dialogue, they discussed U.S.-Taiwan relations and U.S.-China dynamics. Topics included opportunities in U.S.-Taiwan ties, the impact of China’s military exercises on Taiwan and regional stability, cooperation between Taiwan and the U.S. in strengthening defense and whole-of-society resilience, and Taiwan’s advantages in the semiconductor industry.
They also explored how Taiwan is standing shoulder to shoulder with like-minded partners in the Indo-Pacific to contribute to regional peace and security, while helping build global resilience in both industrial supply chains and democratic governance.
