Arts-in-Residence Taipei (AIR Taipei) provides a platform for diverse cultural collaboration across artistic disciplines throughout the globe. As the capital of Taiwan, Taipei is AIR’s base encouraging professional artists exchanges between Taiwanese and international artists. These interactions help create intercultural and interdisciplinary dialogues that resonate between communities and individuals long after the artist’s residence is completed. AIR Taipei is located at Treasure Hill Artist Village (THAV) along the Xindian River in Taipei City. Treasure Hill was listed in 2011 as the first “historic settlement” of Taipei City. The unique scenery of Treasure Hill with its narrow alleys and winding staircase across the hill gives THAV a sense of a rural village. Over the years, various groups settled on the hillside with their own lifestyles and needs, creating a tribal-like organic scene. Responding to the City government’s policy of preservation and revitalization, the Arts-in-Residence Taipei program hopes to achieve a spirit of ‘symbiosis’ with the living history and local residents, as well as support an inspiring environment for creators.
