The government of the Republic of China (Taiwan) has pledged a cash donation of $500,000 to the Hawaii Community Foundation to support the Hawaii state government’s relief efforts in helping communities and families deeply affected by the devastating wildfires on Maui.
As of August 16, the death toll from the deadliest US wildfire in a century has reached 106 and loss of property estimated at least $6 billion.
Governor of Hawaii Josh Green extended sincere appreciation to the government of Taiwan on behalf of the state of Hawaii for its timely support and generous offer.
This year marks the 30th anniversary of sister state relationship between Hawaii and Taiwan. During the past 30 years, two sides have worked together on areas of mutual interests and collaborative projects in many fields, including trade, culture, education, etc, which have benefited both sides as well as forged a closer and deeper friendship between the two peoples.
This donation also reminisces about the fondest memory of founding father Dr. Sun Yat-sen as Honolulu and Maui, continued to mark their historical significance as revolution bases for the Republic of China, the first republic in Asia, and Taiwan’s endeavors to democracy and equality.
From donations to international collaborations in fighting climate change and various challenges for the globe, the government of Taiwan will keep practicing the spirit of “Taiwan Can Help, and Taiwan is helping!”
