2. Authentication for Certificate of Marriage, Divorce, Birth, Death and/or Cremation
※ Our consular service jurisdiction covers four states, namely New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and Pennsylvania. We only accept documents produced within our service area. For documents executed out of our service area, please check the web link (Consular District) to find a competent mission.
Application form
** Valid Identification can be (1) unexpired passport or (2) expired passport + US driver’s license
Except ROC passport, all mail-in IDs have to be notarized
For Death Certificate authentication, except for the informant, proof of kinship is required.
Copies of IDs of person of interest, such as parties of marriage or divorce, the deceased, the newborn and its parents. ID copies except those of ROC passports should be notarized.
Document to be authenticate and an extra copy.
For authentication of a Cremation Certificate issued by a private funeral home, the certificate has to be notarized by a public notary.
Chinese Translation
Please note that a Chinese translation and the English original are to be authenticated as two documents.Two ways to have a Chinese translation authenticated; namly,
(A) The applicant signs on the Chinese translation in person onsite or, if by mail, Chinese translation should by notarized by a notary public; or,
(B) With the English document authenticated by TECO, a Chinese translation can be notarized by a notary public in Taiwan.
Processing time, rate and payment
Regular: 10 working days at USD 15 per item.
Expedite (if applicable): 5 working days at an extra fee USD7.5 per item.
Chinese translation at USD 15 per item.
Payment by cash, money order or cashier’s check, payable to TECO in NY; we don’t’ accept credit card or personal check.
How to lodge an application
By appointment: Our consular service is available from 09:00 to 11:00, Monday through Thursday. Click to make an appointment online.
Walk-in: There is a limit of 25 walk-ins daily. In practice, our staff will start to handle walk-in customers from 11:00 to 13:00 after those by appointment have been served. Walk-ins can take a number from 08:45 on a first-come-first-served basis.
Drop-off: An application placed in an envelop can be hand-delivered and dropped off to our mail box at the ground floor lobby during our office hours.

To claim your document
Onsite pickup: Have your receipt or ID ready and (A) slots open for pick-up from 15:00 to 16:00 on cited date and following Tuesday and Friday or (B) by online appointment or walk-in-take-a-number during office hours.
By mail: Prepare a self-addressed-stamp-affixed return envelope. By doing so, the applicant agrees to take the risk of lost or damage during delivery, TECO-NY will not be liable for any accident.
