To register your child in Taiwan, both parents will have to accompany the child to Taiwan. The required documents may vary for some cases. For details, please check with the relevant authorities in Taiwan (National Immigration Agency and Household Registration Offices) for requirements that apply to your specific case.
In general, the following documents are required to be authenticated by our office before your trip to Taiwan. Please click on individual links for document authentication requirements:
- QLD/NT Birth Certificate (English original)
- Birth Certificate Translation in Traditional Chinese (Alternatively, the translation can be notarized by the District Court in Taiwan or by a Notary Public in Taiwan.)
- Medicare Immunisation History Statement + QLD Health Red Book / NT Yellow Book
- If your child is over 6 years old, a health check completed within recent 3 months will be required. (Click here for the standard health check form.) Health checks completed in Australia has to be authenticated first before it will be accepted in Taiwan (See Authenticating Medical Documents). Alternatively, the health check can be done in Taiwan at one of the designated hospitals.
If you got married in QLD/NT but have not yet registered your marriage in Taiwan, you are required to authenticate your QLD/NT Marriage Certificate as well:
5. QLD/NT Marriage Certificate (English original - only the Standard Version issued by the BDM will be accepted)
6. Marriage Certificate Translation in Traditional Chinese (Alternatively, the translation can be notarized by the District Court in Taiwan or by a Notary Public in Taiwan.)
Please note:
- If only one of the parents is traveling with the child to Taiwan for birth registration, the other parent is required to have his/her Agreement for Resident Application (定居同意書) or Power of Attorney (授權書) authenticated by our office.
- If one of the parent is not R.O.C. national, have not yet registered your marriage in Taiwan and that parent will not be accompanying the child to Taiwan, the parent is required to have his/her Chinese Name Declaration (中文姓名聲明書) authenticated by our office.
- If your child was conceived before you were married and the mother is not a R.O.C. national, her No Record of Marriage and a Chinese translation are required to be authenticated.
