An 11-member delegation of British parliamentarians from both houses of the UK Parliament visited Taiwan from 30 July – 5 August.
Arranged by the Taipei Representative Office in the UK (TRO), and led by Andrew Rosindell MP, Vice-Chair of the British Taiwanese All-Party Parliamentary Group, the visit was designed to give the parliamentarians a better understanding of Taiwan’s current political and economic developments, the Five Plus Two Innovative Industries Initiative, diplomatic relations, and cross-Strait relations. The delegates also gained greater insights on Taiwan-UK economic and trade relations and railway cooperation, while advancing inter-parliamentary exchanges.
During the visit, the delegation members met with President Tsai Ing-wen at the Office of the President in Taipei City and were given receptions by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Taichung City government. They also visited the Legislative Yuan, Ministry of Transportation and Communications, National Development Council, Mainland Affairs Council, and British Office Taipei.
Additionally, the delegation was provided with a tour of sites of cultural and economic interest across Taiwan, including the National Palace Museum, Taipei 101, the Taipei Rapid Transit Corp., as well as the Chung Tai Chan Monastery, and the Sun Moon Lake in Nantou County.
Other members of the delegation included Baroness Ludford, Sarah Champion MP, James Cleverly MP, Ian Murray MP and Ms Woolfson, Paul Scully MP and Mrs Scully, Paula Sheriff MP, Martin Vickers MP and Mrs Vickers.
