Due to our consulate jurisdiction, applicants who reside in northern Britain, (north of Durham, Cumbria, & Scotland) or the Isle of Man should make visas applications from Taipei Representative Office in the UK, Edinburgh Office
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- UK citizens physically residing in the UK;
- Have not obtained a YMS resident visa to the Republic of China (Taiwan) prior to this application;
- Between 18 and 30 years of age, inclusively;
Visa type:
YMS visa is a single entry resident visa valid for 3 months from the date of issue, the duration of stay in Taiwan is 1 year from the date of entry into the country.
What you need to do after entering ROC Taiwan:
YMS resident visa holders must enter Taiwan before the visa expiry date, and apply for a one-year Alien Resident Card (ARC) and a Re-entry Permit at local service centers of the National Immigration Agency within 15 days of entering Taiwan. For more information on ARC, please contact the authority directly.
How to submit your application:
Applicants may submit their YMS visa applications 2-10 weeks prior to scheduled arrival date.
- In person: during opening hours; no appointment needed
- TRO opening hours: Monday to Friday, 0930am - 1230pm (last entry before 12pm)
- Excluding bank holidays, Chinese New Year’s Day, and ROC National Day (10th October)
- By professional agent or a friend/family member: with agent’s original passport;
- By post

The TRO reserves the right to request additional supporting documents, such as employment letter, school letter, police record or an interview etc., depending on the circumstances of each application after submission.
Important information:
- Visa issuance is an act of sovereignty. The TRO has the right to withhold disclosure of further explanations regarding visa approval or declination in accordance with laws and international practices. Visa fee is non-refundable.
- During processing, the visa officer may request further procedures or supporting documents, including document authentication and an interview.
- It is the applicant’s responsibility to ensure that all requirements as specified above have been fulfilled. Applications made without sufficient supporting documents will result in a delayed processing time or being denied a visa. Incomplete applications will be returned without processing.
- The TRO does not accept responsibility for any service not provided by the TRO, such as those by the post office, delivery service providers, or agents hired by the applicant etc.
