This year, the annual conference of the University of Nottingham’s Taiwan Studies Programme (TSP) took place from 28-29 June. The theme of the conference was 'Mapping Taiwan Globally: New Southbound Policy and Moving Forward' and attracted over 40 scholars and experts from the UK, US, Germany, Australia, Singapore, Japan, Korea, Indonesia and Taiwan. Professor H.H. Michael Hsiao of Taiwan’s Academia Sinica and Professor T.J. Pempel of the University of Berkeley delivered keynote speeches which stimulated in-depth discussion among attendees regarding the New Southbound Policy's strategies and Taiwan's external relations, including those with countries in the region and beyond. Participants praised the conference for its informative and cutting-edge research.
The two-day conference also featured a ceremony commemorating the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the University of Nottingham’s TSP and National Chengchi University’s Centre of Southeast Asia Studies. The TSP is the first institute in Europe to establish a partnership with the Centre of Southeast Asia Studies at National Chengchi University. The two institutes will collaborate to promote joint research and publications and will eventually include academic and students exchanges.
