The Doritaenopsis (Dtps.) Elizabeth II orchid has been officially included in the Royal Horticultural Society International Orchid Register. The orchid was registered along with Phalaenopsis (Phal.) Charming William and Doritaenopsis Charming Kate. All three species were intended by cultivators to serve as a continuing celebration of the happy nuptials of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge in April 2011.
The Taiwan Orchid Growers Association (TOGA) participated in last May’s RHS Chelsea Flower Show with a display themed on the Royal Wedding, and their efforts were rewarded when it received a gold medal from the RHS judges, who regarded it as one of the best of the 650 exhibits at the show. Her Majesty, The Queen has visited the Taiwanese exhibits at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show for the past two years, and upon receiving a gift of a specimen of the Dtps. Elizabeth II orchid last year, she highly praised the artistic and technical skills of Taiwanese orchid cultivators.
