Amb. Peter Sha-Li Lan and Hon. Camillo Gonsalves, Minister of Finance, Economic Planning, and Information Technology, on behalf of the government of the Republic of China (Taiwan) and the government of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, signed the Implementation Arrangement of the “Enhancing Public Safety with the Intelligent Video Analytics Project for Saint Vincent and the Grenadines” at the conference room of the Blue Lagoon Hotel on 10th March, 2023, officially launching the project.
Mr. Colin John, Commissioner of Police, Mr. Leonard Fergus, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Mr. Olsen Rodney, Inspector of Royal St. Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force (RSVGPF), Mr. Carlon Browne, Director of Information Technology Services Division (ITSD), Ms. Donnette Delpesche O’Neil, project coordinator and other officials from RSVGPF and ITSD, colleagues from the Taiwan Embassy and the Taiwan Technical Mission as well as the media also attended the signing ceremony.
Amb. Lan said in his remarks that the new project would focus on capacity building and video analytics on the basis of the precedent “Intelligent Bus Management and Monitoring System Project for Saint Vincent and the Grenadines” (E-Bus Project), with the aim of improving the capabilities of utilizing information technology by RSVGPF and ITSD, and further achieving multiple goals such as enhancing public safety and facilitating social stability.
In their remarks, Hon. Minister Gonsalves and Commissioner John commended the project in establishing the surveillance system for the government of SVG and effectively assisting RSVGPF in maintaining social security, which was the game changer in law enforcement of SVG. Hon. Minister Gonsalves also urged more bus drivers to join the E-Bus system by installing devices on their vehicles with the aim of providing more intelligent and convenient services to their customers.
